The 2nd Annual Art Show at Sir Andrew Macphail Homestead is now on, with an opening reception on July 5 at 2pm.
In the words of the curators: The theme is “Art Reflecting Macphail’s Prince Edward Island Home.” Sir Andrew Macphail was a teacher, doctor, experimental farmer, published author, editor, and loved his PEI home. His interest in Island flora, fauna, landscape, heritage, fishing, and agriculture should be reflected in the art.

(Some of the paintings got swapped into different-but-similar frames to allow installation of gallery hanging wire, but I didn’t get new photos with the new frames yet, as noted above.)
I spent much of Monday (June 30) at the Homestead, helping to hang these paintings, along with dozens and dozens (I lost count) more pieces of art from 18 other professional and emerging artists. They will be on display in Sir Andrew Macphail Homestead until July 27.
You are invited to the opening reception: Saturday, July 5 from 2 to 4 pm, 271 Macphail Park Road, Orwell, PE. There’s air conditioning, wheelchair accessible entrance and modern washrooms, and refreshments will be provided.
Please come see the artwork and get to know the artists. Maybe discover and take home artwork to always remind you of a memorable experience, of falling in love with a favourite place.
I hope to see you there!
After that I hope to have some downtime to get back to painting more next week, before another bunch of upcoming events I am looking forward to:
- Sunday, July 13 – Plein Air Day at Cape Bear Lighthouse (free)
- Tuesday, July 15 – ArtHive Pop Up at Murray River Library (free)
- Thursday, July 17 – Art workshop with artist Lorraine Vatcher at Cape Bear Lighthouse ($50/person, advance registration required)
- Saturday, July 19 – Plein Air Day at Sir Andrew Macphail Homestead (free)
- Sunday, July 20 – Lunch & Lecture featuring artist Henry Purdy at Sir Andrew Macphail Homestead (reservations recommended)
Maybe I will see some of you at those events, too?
